2023 Color Trends

2023 Color Trends

As 2022 ended, we said goodbye to the dreamy, nostalgic Veri Peri from Pantone. We saw this color trending throughout the year in many different promotional items, from tumblers to car visors. I was so inspired, in fact, I wrote an entire blog about the 2022 Color Trends.

The lavender effervescence of Veri Peri circulated its way through the industry, and as a Pantone-lover in the marketing department here at SAGE, I am sad to see it go.

But as 2023 emerged, we were hopeful for a color that would be just as loved for the upcoming year. For me, at least, I hoped for a vibrant, exciting shade to really shake things up!

And wow… this year’s color is what dreams are made of!

The 2023 Pantone Color of the Year is Viva Magenta.

In the words of Pantone, “[Viva Magenta]… is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

To dive into the Magentaverse provided by Pantone, I found some nifty promo items to really spice up 2023 with trendy new colors.

Viva Magenta might be my favorite Color of the Year thus far. It’s bold. It’s lively. And, of course, it’s pink, so that’s a plus! This vivacious pink is a big win for the promotional products industry because it’s meant to stand out. An eye-catching magenta is just what we needed to get ahead of the competition. Imagine creating an entire magenta kitting campaign for your client. Magenta shirts, magenta beanies, magenta… you name it! (If you’re not entirely sold on the kitting idea yet, read this article to learn more about the kitting side of promo.)

You’re probably thinking, this writer must be a big fan of the color pink… That you are right, but clearly I’m not the only one. Let’s investigate the other top Color of the Year contenders.

Another pink – Yay! Pale Dog Wood would have been my second choice for Color of the Year. Why? Because it’s a color we see trending not only in homes, but also in fashion. And if we learned anything from the Devil Wears Prada, in order to be ahead of the curve, look to designer fashion first to discover emerging color trends. (Just like you wouldn’t dare be caught wearing a cerulean sweater two seasons after Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns for fashion week.)

This pale-ish pink, in its own right, is a trendsetter. Journals, phone cases, sunglasses, and apparel are all wildly popular in this color due to their aesthetically pleasing hue.

If pink is just not your thing, Pantone included a nice light tan in their Magentaverse. How thoughtful! This is yet another color trend we see emerging from the fashion industry. Out of all of the colors I present for you today, I would say Gray Sand is the most versatile. Gray Sand is a muted, pale khaki, with a pink undertone. This would be an ideal color scheme for business promo.

And lastly, we have Gray Lilac. This color is light grey with a lavender tone. I see Gray Lilac being the perfect color for relaxing gift sets and spa-like products. This calming color is unlike its Magentaverse counterparts but is a subtle complementary addition to this lineup.

From big, bold hues to light, serene shades, the Magentaverse is a perfect palette for any promotional masterpiece. As Viva Magenta lives up to its name, this joyous color should spark creativity in all of us.
